Butch Caldwell

  If you believe in something strong enough it’s destined to become a reality.  That “something” became a reality for me when I became a guitarist for the First State Force Band.

  Hello, my name is Butch Caldwell.  I am currently assigned to Troop 5 as a Patrol Sergeant and reside in Sussex County where both my son and I share the same passion for guitar and musical composition. 

  I have gained a wealth of experience from my 24 years in the law enforcement profession.  I graduated from the Delaware State Police Training Academy in 1980. I then worked for the Dover Police Department for four years as a Patrol/Motorcycle Enforcement Officer before accepting a position with the division.  I have served as a Patrol Trooper in all three Sussex County Troops, as a detective in the Property/Major Crimes Units, as a Detective Sergeant in the Major Crimes/Domestic Violence Units and as a Shift Sergeant at Troops 4, 5 and 7. I am and have been involved in the Field Officer Training Program since 1987, instructing and mentoring new Recruit Troopers as they leave the Academy and begin their career as Patrol Troopers.   I am also a certified instructor and have taught at the DSP Academy, as well as other law enforcement locations both in and out of the state.     

  I chose police work as a profession for the challenge and excitement of working with people in all areas of law enforcement.  I consider myself an aggressive, interactive Patrol Sergeant who takes on the administrative responsibilities that are necessary in that position and I also enjoy every opportunity to work the street with my shift and other road personnel handling complaints, enforcing criminal and traffic laws and providing help to the community. 

  It is a very a rewarding and satisfying experience to be member of the First State Force Band.  Being able to musically collaborate with the other talented artistic musicians is awesome and to create a harmonized blend of sound is a tremendous feeling. 

The message is clear - say no to drugs, no to violence, respect yourself and others.
